August 2016, part 2

One of the best perks about coming back to Virginia is being within a short drive of our Fairfax family.  We vacationed all together for the first time right before we moved away and even though we missed a couple of years in between, the gang is back together.  And we are a big gang.  We moved just in time to join ScharsonJenderborg for the 2016 Family Reunion to Smith Mountain Lake in the beautiful hills of western Virginia.
I love these people.  They are good folk.  They are funny and generous and good and they make me feel happy.

We are a symbiotic group - everyone pulls their weight and contributes and so being a big group is not that hard.  Even with 27 people and only two bathrooms the week was a blast.
One evening we took the boat "into town" (trading who rode there and who rode back so everyone got a turn.) We had dinner and ice cream, fed the giant fish at the dock and headed home into the sunset.

The accommodations are not spacious for our group our size but the home is lovely with beautiful views and the most generous owners - we had use of a ski boat, jet skis and a plethora of other toys brought in by different people.

And one evening is always reserved for the adults when we get together.  We love our children but boy howdy, sometimes we need a little peace and quiet.  A romantic couples cruise around the lake where we point out all the homes we covet.  There are usually twizzlers or M&Ms involved.

The one and only time that the two bathrooms were not enough ended in a rather nasty abrasion on my leg (I still sport the scar.)  It is a heroic wound from quickly whisking a little boy outside to do his "business" in the dark...don't worry, he made it.

So much fun was had by all.  Lots of swimming, lots of boating, lots of delicious food.  A devotional by a different age group each morning and family prayer at night.
