Comfort Food

Have you heard the one about the man who goes into a bar? He sits down and orders a drink (a Root Beer of course). While he's sitting there he hears, "Wow, what a great shirt!". He looks around to see who said it but doesn't see anyone near him so he goes back to his drink. Again, he hears the voice, "You look like a really nice guy". This happens a few more times and he begins to feel aggitated because there is no one near him. So he finally asks the bartender, "Do you hear that?" and the bartender replies, "Oh yeah, it's the peanuts. They're complimentary."
Yesterday was just one of those hectic and frantic days. I was trying to get a bunch of stuff done in the morning so that we could relax and go to the park in the afternoon. It was just taking forever to complete some simple tasks and get out the door. So finally we make it to the car and decide that what is needed is some good old fashion comfort food to calm everyone down and keep hands and mouths busy for our errand.

Sonic being our fast food joint of choice we ordered our food and got on our way. I took the first bite of my Sonic Cheeseburger--a big one, right into the fresh, soft bun. It was such a big bite that my cheeks felt the warm caress of the bread, and it felt like a hug. It's as if the burger was telling me, "Relax, lay your troubles aside and enjoy the fried, fatty artificial taste of joy." So I took some swigs of my huge root beer and consumed a couple of cheese sticks (OK, a few cheese sticks) and felt much better.

Hilary brings the world together...

Houston is a great place in live. In March, every year they host the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It's all the goats, turkey legs on a stick, cows (both as "cows" and as "beef"), funnel cakes, carnie food, buckin broncos, and tight levis that you can handle...and thats just the begining. We love being here in March and we frequent the rodeo as often as possible. There are shows, carnival rides and animals (not to mention the food, my gosh the food) all day long and the big rodeo and concert at night. My personal favorite is the calf scramble where 25 FFA students get turned loose on about 15 calves that they have to catch with nothin' but their bare hands in order to win money to raise a calf in the coming year. It's the best. This year I took my 11 year old sister in law to see Hilary Duff. We ended up in a larger group of people. The entire night I was thinking that I simply must blog about the sheer demographics of our carload (let alone the rest of the concert going public.) We had three nationalities represented and ranged in age from 4 to 11 to 17 to late 20's. I guess Hilary just has that something special. That certain something that just makes you want to get out your lighter, hold hands and sway. The world is a better place...for you and for me and the entire universe...
