My husband had duty yesterday which means a 24 hour working shift back to back with a regular work day today...that means that I let the house go ever so slightly down the toilet. We eat plain noodles with cheese or frozen pizza and usually I let the dishes and loosely strewn clothing sit about the house until the next day right before he comes home from work. I typically don't like to leave a mess around...it's just setting up "future me" for frustration and irritation. (I have another post about that in the works...)
So this morning when I woke up I was thinking about how happy my long, classy Williams-Sanoma apron makes me. When I wear it in the kitchen it helps me do my work with greater satisfaction and a bit of enjoyment. What's better than getting your housework done? Why, doing it with style!! So instead of getting right to work this morning I decided that I needed a cute apron to do it all in...right now. And since I have no money or patience to wait for an adorable handmade apron in the mail, I rummaged through my fabric and made one. It may lack the cute ruffles or pom poms of a shabby chic rendition, but I'm not so good with patterns anyway.
So now I can put it on, skip down the stairs and make my children lunch, wash the urine-smelling laundry of yesterday, unload and load the dishwasher, vacuum the living room rug for the umpteenth time, and tidy up the bedrooms...all with a little more gaiety in my step.
I think I might just die of domesticity some days....and don't be sad, I happen to know a whole lot of you cute little housewives out there that would also be victims of "domecide" on a regular basis.
So ladies, strap on those adorable aprons and get things done...don't forget to whistle while you work and stop your skipping to pat those little kids of yours on the head whilst dancing through the rooms with your feather duster...or fancy Swiffer, whatever floats your boat.

Okay. Are you and the princess in "Enchanted" twin sisters separated at birth? Wait, I would have to know the answer to that. The apron IS darling. Maybe that's what I need to put a smile on my face as I clean the bathroom.

I plan on making aprons for Christmas. A couple days ago I found my missing sewing machine piece and was thinking I should ask you for advice. Now I know I need to ask you- good job!
(and that is exactly what I when Peter works nights or is out of town. If I were a single mom, my kids might not know how to eat anything but cereal)

very very impressive. and i too enjoy wearing an apron. i thought i would have liked living back in the day when all the women wore aprons all the time over their dresses. they really had something going for them. do you think people would think i was wierd wearing one over my jeans shopping at walmart?
How much would you charge a nice friend for one of those?? I really love it. You're always coming up with the most creative projects and making me feel like I got short changed in the talent department.
I love you're snazzy new apron. I am much more focused while wearing an apron. It's harder to get side tracked while wearing your "work" uniform.
Ok, I have to admit I'm a little jealous that you love wearing an apron. I keep seeing darling aprons online that I would LOVE to make but I don't ever wear one. Occasionally when I have flour all over my black slacks I think maybe my mom was right and I should wear an apron but it just doesn't click with me. Please convert me. WHY do you so enjoy wearing an apron?

Adorable apron...maybe you should go into business for yourself. I think I would have just given up after making the apron, but then again I don't think I would have ever thought to make one in the first place.

I need a cute apron like that so while I am scrubbing things and cooking food no one wants to eat (except for my loving husband) I could atleast feel pretty. I will have to find one.

First, thank you for reminding me JUST how LUCKY we have been that Jase has been able to avoid standing Duty for over 2 months now.
I had a good laugh though, because we were just talking yesterday that because he hasn't gone TAD, stood duty, or ANYTHING taking him away for more then 24 hours lately, I haven't jumped waist deep into a project to complete in the house. No massive sorting, cleaning, re-arranging, sewing, crocheting, or cross-stich projects finish in abundance. Then I filled in the part where the first 12 hours were spent totally and completely IGNORING ALL CHORES! The kids don't care, so I took breaks. The energy was great for the blast that followed.
I never had a cute apron to make me Super Mom though...hmmm. Yet, funny enough, I've been getting the fabrics collected to make ALL of my kids cool aprons for Christmas gifts this year.
Yours is adorable! I like clean and ruffle free...it's right up my alley. Perfect way to spend a day before housework.
Seriously...I don't know anyone else in this world except my 4 sisters that could decide to "whip" up an apron and make one that not only LOOKS like an apron but is SO stinking cute. Will you make me one too? I'm not going to do any more housework until you make me an apron.

My word, make me an apron. I happen to sing and dance as I work, but it has to be to country music. I also happen to clean best when I am wearing my nightgown.........Now I am worried. Miss you all.
