barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen...

So this is me looking disinterested in what I am doing...good shot of the belly though, don't you think? Take a good look at that belly (ignoring the adorable rooster apron I have on to protect the mess-magnet that I carry around in front of me). Some of you may recall a couple of months ago when I was having some problems with my blood pressure. There was talk with my doctor about the slight possibility of really premature delivery if it didn't return to normal...then I asked you all to pray that the baby might grow quickly and gain weight just in case things did not progress well....STOP. Stop praying for growth with this child. At my appointment this last week I was informed that I was indeed measuring 4 1/2 weeks LARGE. In my defense, that does not mean I am gaining weight uncontrollably all over. No. It simply (and more frighteningly) means that my uterus is a whoppin 4 and a 1/2 weeks ahead. They ordered an ultrasound just to make sure it wasn't excess fluid or anything like that. The tech's professional opinion?...."No, you just have a big baby". Exciting news for an expectant mother who still has a good 6-7 weeks to go. My smallest baby so far was 7 lbs. 12 oz. and she was not only induced 2 weeks early, but a full pound (and then some) smaller than my first two. If I decide to have any more children, remind me to have couple of ribs removed. But look at that little face. I can't seem to get over the fact that there is a real baby in there (try to imagine her without the pig snout...I'm sure she's got cartilage covering that up or something, let's hope.) Now instead of praying for weight gain, could you direct those efforts towards us finding a name?
On lighter news, take a look at our chain. It used to drape over the wall clock in the girls' room three times with length to spare on either side. We are so close to seeing our husband/Dad again. So close in fact that it has been downright painful. This last week has been the longest ever and I'm afraid the little time left will be even worse. We got to talk to him last week during a last minute port call (he was in Brest, France...an appropriate place to spend Valentine's Day, don't you think?). Let me tell you, that port call threw everyone into a frenzy. I could create an entirely different blog just to explain the details of how one grown woman (pregnant) and three little girls of various ages cope with the absence of their husband and father...it wouldn't be a pretty blog. It has been hard, and pathetic, and sad. There have been lots of tears, lots of crying for Daddy and lots of hugs. Bless the millions of people that live without their parents for any reason. It's just not the way it is supposed to be. I'm trying hard to concentrate on how far we have come, to take the focus off of the little time we have left.
So tell me something funny...share a story...give me an assignment...distract us for this last little while.

I also get very large with my children. Paige was induced a week early because they thought for sure that I could not give birth to a child that big. They even asked me at my fourth month if twins ran in the family. I used to wear a support strap that attached with velcro to help with the weight of the baby. The strap would not fit around me after the seventh month. The velcro kept coming undone during the day. My brother even told me that his wife never got that big. With the second child I could not work the last week. I could not even move. Just remember it will be done soon.

WOW! Is it really that soon??! You are one AMAZING woman to have come through this ordeal. We pray for you and your little girls often. I wish I could see the joyful reunion when it occurs. Nothin' I love more than seeing happy, happy tears. :)

You're at the final kick here... now SPRINT! (Maybe the baby will come a little early if you do?)

I am one that gets HUGE with each and every pregnancy. Not many places for a child to go when you are 5 ft. tall. So, I know how you feel. Does your belly button have radar and when anyone gets within 5 ft. it hurts?

I am so glad to hear that your husband will be home soon. Truly, my heart goes out to all of you and I pray for military families everywhere when they are separated. I truly appreciate all that your husband does but I also appreciate the sacrifice you, his family, make on everyone else's behalf.

Heh-heh. Love the rooster. Here's a cheerer-upper. My last baby was huge! Finally decided I had gestational diabetes. 7 weeks to go still and the ultrasound said the baby already weighed 9 lb 10 oz!!!!! My previous babies were all WEll under 8 lbs. He definitely stopped growing so fast when I changed my diet. He was born 1 1/2 weeks early, and weighed in at 9 lbs even. Nice. I mean, that's big, but I was expecting like 11 lbs! Those ultrasounds are just trouble.

Oh Emily! What can I do?? Megan gets here tomorrow about 11:30...how about a visit? We would love to see you. I will give you a call.

Okay I know I am supposed to cheer you up but now I am teary eyed! You are by the way the cutest pregnant girl. Are those cheesy potatoes you are stirring in that bowl????

You are the cutest pregnant lady I've ever seen. Where did you get those cute clothes? And your ring still fits, so you can't be that swollen. My ultrasounds estimated the boys would each be about a pound bigger than they actually were, if that helps. Maybe they're off on their measurements. Maybe she will be big but will start sleeping through the night at 2 weeks. You never know!

I am so excited Clark is coming home soon. How much time can you spend making posters and other welcome home stuff? Maybe a distraction would be better than focusing on it though . . .

Oh Em, you did a little too well on the disinterested look-Stepford Wife comes to mind. We will pray for the naming process and for the house to sell and for safe journeys and for good deliveries and.... Clark paid you a wonderful tribute. I'm grateful to be a part of it. I have an idea of how to spend the next week. Hide all the extra you have accumulated in Utah so Clark doesn't realize (yet!)what has to be sent home. Love you,MOM

LOVE the apron..it even looks cute over a (slightly) large belly. Good luck with the whole large baby thing. Abby informed me that you have big babies too. At 8.8 and a week early, Ryan was almost a pound bigger than Bridger. I was hoping that this one would be smaller for you...It would give me (and Abby) hope of having smaller babies in the future!

Is that eleven days left I see on the chain? I hope they are day and not weeks.

the belly is so so cute! i can't believe how little time you have left before baby comes, and before your husband gets back. that is the greatest news! i don't know how you've survived. you are amazing! i know my girls would be sad with jake gone, so your girls are troopers, too. sorry no distraction advice here. just praise for your endurance- that's good enough, right?!

you didn't like the assignment i gave you a while back...hang in there, read a gossip magazine, watch some TV, it helps numb my mind:) You are a tough one, hang in there...will you be induced? Give us an update on the binkie fiasco or just call me!

Bless you for enduring. I'll send some prayers your way for making the remaining time go quickly.

I am glad Clark is coming home. I admire you. You are very strong. Plus very cute with your belly and all. I gained weight in my ears. You are stunning. I hope everything goes well. My prayers are with you.

Horray! I am so happy that paper chain has diminished so much.

The expression on your face says it all. I hope the next few weeks fly by for you.

to distract you:

Yesterday I was singing a song in Spanish with my kids. I thought it would be awesome to learn some songs in various languages. I even told my daughter we could be multi-lingual. She asked what that was. I told her it means speaking many languages. She was thrilled--she said "You mean like Chinese, Japanese, Italian, CHICAGO?"
(Maybe we need geography more than language classes.)

The other day she asked me, "What's fast food?". Apparently, we need to get out more.

You crack me up, maybe just because we are both set to deliver at the same time. I can't imagine doing it w/o a husband around....although I tend to just blame all my problems on mine~
Hang in there, at least you know that your baby accounts for most of the weight gain, I wish I could use that excuse!

You look so cute pregnant!! Not much longer. Good luck with the name thing-hey you could research names to keep you busy. Picking a name is so hard, but I am sure it will come.

you are the cutest pregnant woman. i can't believe you have such a short time until hubby and baby come. you are amazing for hanging in there. good luck in the naming department - i love it once i find the name, but the journey there . . . not so fun!!

as far as distractions . . isn't that what kids are for?!?!? bundle them up, send them out in the snow and then you stay inside with some nice warm cocoa and a good book!!

My dear cousin-- I just am empathizing with the look on your face sooooo much right now that I want to come and make dinner for you or something while you prop up your feet and rest!

You're so cute Emily! I like the way you write - you Oscarson's just have that knack. I love that picture of you in the apron. Don't blame me for the big baby cause I didn't know you wanted us to pray for that. Although I would have prayed had I known. Hang in there!!!

No need to tell you a story, I am just going to go out on a limb and say that you are probably one of the best wife, mother, sisters, I know. I just can't believe how strong you are and how good you are with your kids. I miss you and all the radiates off you. Can you come see me please?

Kara said...

You look so cute! I'm sure that doesn't make you feel any better about having a monster child, but it's still true.

How about Hazel for a name? Or Vivi? Or, since you originally wished she would be a boy, how about Sam, Kendall, Taylor, or some other unisex name??

Kara said...

Oh, and you do look just like (sister) Abby in that picture. I had to check that I was on the right blog when I first got here!

Heehee, my doc said she wouldn't let me go past a certain date without inducing because my daughter was about 8lbs. I went into labor the night before. I thought she was off in her measurements, I was expecting a 9lbs, 6oz kid because we have large babies in our family and first daughter was 8lbs 11oz (the same as both me and hubby) Anyway, I gave birth to a 10lb 7oz girl!!! The doc didn't deliver me but when she got the message, the nurse said, she said, LCM is going to kill me!
