Glen the mechanic gave our van 6 months to a year. A grim prognosis for a six year old vehicle...a six year old vehicle with 150,000 miles on it. He strongly suggested that we sell this sinking ship before the engine needs several thousand dollars worth of work.
That is just what I was hoping to hear, 6 months after replacing the entire transmission and deciding that we were committed to the end. Just turns out, the end is a lot sooner than we thought.
So my question you all of you is, what do you drive and how well do you like it?
*Stay tuned for my Easter post where I temporarily lament the fact that the Easter dresses that I ordered four weeks ago to avoid making something didn't come and I had to come up with a crafty alternative 48 hours before. It was awesome and only involved two hot glue gun blisters.

Honda Odyssey. I LOVE it.
Sorry to hear about your dying car. My 11-year-old Ford Explorer has 140,000+ miles on it, has been north of the arctic circle and back, and my mechanic tells me how much he wants one like it. The new Explorers look pretty good and are supposed to get much better gas mileage.
I am nearly at the same point with our minivan. We're not quite ready to make the leap, but once we are we're pretty sure we're going with a Suburban. My hubby abhors the minivan (all of them) mostly because he used to do minor repairs himself and minivans are configured such that the engine often has to come out to get access to some simple wire/filter/sensor that needs replacing. And with six passengers, there aren't many options besides minivans and SUVs. What happened to giant station wagons of yesteryear?
Our Nissan Quest is pushing 170,000 miles and still going strong. But it smells like stinky kids and fast food. We'll be looking for a new car within a year, I am willing to bet. I would definitely go with a Quest again. But I have never met a Honda Odyssey owner that didn't love it. So I'll definitely be looking at them.

We LOVE our Hyundai Entourage. I know it's the poor man's version of the Odyssey but we think it's the bees knees.
I have an Odyssey and never thought I would love a minivan in such a way. It really is like my 4th child. We were in an accident together this last winter and I thought they were going to make us seperate but the Odyssey retains it's value so well that they fixed her up and I hope we are together for many more years.
We love our Odyssey too. Honda's are just made to run for so long, we've only had ours a few years, but so far, no complaints. Although the new model is a little "space-y" looking to me. ???
That is just cruel and unusual punishment. I fear my car will be on death's bed soon, too. After all, we've also put in a ton of money to keep it running.
We have a 2001 Odyssey, do you see a theme, and it's been great. We love it. We bought it used in 2007 and it's still going strong with I wanna say 120ish thousand miles. Josh bargained for it at the Mazda dealership on Rte 50 near 495.
I have no opinions on mini vans--I drove two of them into the ground but never loved either of them as much as these Oyssey owners seem to--especially the Dolly Parton show van which always kind of embarrassed me--oh wait, those weren't even minis--they were full size babies. Mini vans hadn't even been invented. How old am I? Can't wait to see your creative Easter alternatives!
A Toyoto Sienna is made as well as an Odyssey,but a little cheaper (Honda always have a hefty pricetag) but has the same superior Japanese engineering. It sounds terribly un-American but my husband, who has been working on cars himself since he was 15 years old, will only buy foreign designed vehicles. (if this pricks your own conscience, dont forget that almost all American cars are assembled in MEXICO, not here.) We love our Toyoto Sienna, the engine/transmission last so long, you can buy a used one with out worrying its gonna poop out on you in six months.
Personally, I wish we could go back to the horse and buggy!

Funny: A few months ago Waverly and I were talking about different brands of cars. She was asking "What is the difference between a 'Honda' and a 'Hyundai'? She made me laugh out loud when she admitted that she thought 'Hyundai' was just the plural form of 'Honda'! :)

We just layed one to rest. It did it's job.. but it was tight,
and not that cool looking.
I heart my new shiny Yukon..
but do not heart the gas mileage.
But it is, cool looking.

I say we try to get the Dolly Parton van back. I LOVED that piece of bling. We have a minivan and the only thing that makes it cool are the stickers on the window that also make me the "cool" mom when other kids ride in the car...until they get in the back and see the cup holders where Matt does his "experiments". Don't get a car...get a pony.
