a whole gaggle of blogs

**OK I have to just get on with it and publish this one already because my blog reading list is growing by the day..too..many...blogs...to read...must feed...children...
This is really, no I mean really long but chances are if you are reading this, you'll be represented OR you'll find something new and interesting.

My name is Emily and I've been blogging for 3 years and 4 months (whoa, I rarely stick with anything that long.) I guess you could say I'm slightly obsessed. Don't judge me. How many of you live your day to day lives and use the phrase "oh, I should blog about this" more than once or twice during the week? I have really good reasons. I suck at keeping a journal. I have tried a couple of different times and I'm just no good. Besides, I can type way faster than I can write...and if my handwriting is messy then I stress about how yucky it looks and waste time wanting to redo it. I have a journal from when I was 8. I mention being hated by my siblings and parents and whining about how I wished I was never born. Charming. Then I have a couple of years in high school. It has some valuable information but sometimes my handwriting was messy so it bugs me to read it (can you tell that I focus too much unimportant things in my life? it's invites a lot of unnecessary stress. so sue me.)
So I have established a much better pattern of record keeping. It works for me. It's great. But it comes in two parts.
Every 2 or 3 months I sit down at the computer for a good 2 hours and write. It usually ends up being lots and lots of pages long. I pour my heart and soul into what I write. It is honest, raw, accurate and very personal. It's the kind of stuff that I hope no one reads until I am long gone and a few generations have passed. But it's therapeutic so I do it. There are some things that I see great value in remembering.
Then I blog. I blog a lot. About dumb things, and funny things, and unimportant and some important things. I include pictures that I love or that show something significant that I want to remember. Last year I had a blog book made and I plan to do that every year so that eventually I will have a library of blog books--a journal.
I love blogs because its a way that my family and friends stay connected...and that is important to me on a day to day basis when sometimes you don't feel connected to anything or anyone. It's a way to keep up on the goings on with parents, nieces and nephews that I adore and never see. I can read about a friend and learn from them and sympathize with them and know that I can identify with other individuals. I can be entertained by total strangers and learn something new and feel understood or validated. Over the years I have connected with a lot of people through their blogs. I hope it doesn't creep any of you out that I feel like your friend because I know you, in the internet sense. Here are the blogs that I read and who they are...at my last count there were over 50 (try not to be upset if I don't always comment...reading them all takes me a long time and I have to pace myself...)

**If you see your link here and you would rather not be on the list, let me know and I'll remove it promptly.
If you don't see your name listed here its most likely because you are a blog lurker and I don't know you are reading. You see, I really believe in the give and take of the comment section. If you leave a comment I will most certainly go read your blog. That is blogging courtesy...but then of course you get sucked into the blogging vortex. Your eyes will eventually glaze over and when you come to you'll realize suddenly that its two hours later, you're hungry and your husband has gone to bed out of sheer boredom and neglect. Sometimes I actually have to set a timer to remind me that my time is up (and I generally like to limit my time on the computer to a reasonable amount so that my kids won't starve or grow up and move out of the house while I am busy checking e mail and working on my own projects.)
I would have more time to read blogs if I didn't spend 75% of my day picking up after little people and doing normal household things. If anyone has a suggestion on how to cut back by all means, let me know...unless of course your answer is to have fewer children. It's too late for that.
(I apologize for the random pictures...I was just trying to keep things interesting.)

Oh girl, you gotta use Google Reader (if you're not already). It's nice cuz you can see your gaggle of blogs all at once and see who has updated and ignore those who have not. =]

I'm first again, I'm first again! That's because they're actually NAPPING!!!! I am privileged to be part of your 12,811 visitors and we love Colbert too, but not enough to adopt him - unless he gave us a cut of his yearly earnings.

Oh. I am not first.

I read the whole thing! Do I get a prize? It was fun to guess who people were by your descriptions.

I didn't get your call cause I was in class (dungeon) with no reception. You made Sheaux very happy though.

Nice list. Now I have more ways to go and use the time I don't really have. Sweet!

Thanks to your list, I have been in the vortex for hours now. And both kids were sleeping--doh! (sleep when the baby sleeps, sleep when the baby sleeps--I KNOW I KNOW!)

sometimes it's hard to keep up with all of the blogs. i need to make mine into a book one day. the story about the mice in the bbq is so crazy! i can't believe that! i also can't believe that your sis had a girl after thinking it was a boy. that could get real interesting if that ever happened around here.

I really debated with myself whether or not to comment. I have been a blog stalker for quite a while and I really should stop lurking in the corners, but at the same time, the last thing you need is another blog to read.
So, please feel free to NOT read my blog since you seem to have plenty to read, and I will try to comment more often since I really do enjoy your thoughts and writing.
I was originally drawn to your blog because I am pregnant with my fourth girl. I feel we have something in common. Loads of pink laundry...at least.

I too am a horrible journal keeper. THe entire time I am writing I wonder who will read this and then I can't be myself. For some reason. blogging is easier. It also makes me feel a little better about not keeping up with my scrapbooks.

I'm glad that I made the list!

I was just catching up on some of your old posts and I LOVE the one about how you clean. I totally do that too. If I had enough time the whole house would get clean but alas the boys make messes quicker than I can get around. I want my blog to be like yours when it grows up. Haha.
Call me anytime about the grill and the flowers. Tell the girls I say HI!!!

Want to hear something funny? I honestly thought that I read your blog because you read mine. Guess not! How did I find your blog?

I know a lot about your life. I feel like a window-peeper or something.

If you're interested, my blog is granolasdodallas.blogspot.com

Talk to you later old friend!

You caught me...I am a blog lurker. You do have a lot of blogs to read so if you don't make it my way that is fine. My blog is by invite only so I will need your email to invite you. BTW, I love the cowboy boots picture!!

I know that if I am going to check blogs I better have a big chunk of time. It is fun to have such a great way to keep up with each other isn't it? I have been wanting to do the book thing for a really long time and have actually started one. I just never have enough time to get it finished. Someday....

Do you know anyone who isn't beautiful with adorable kids? I also can't believe how interconnected everyone is in your world. I guess I made it into your circle only because my dh used to date and I'm friends with someone else on your list, huh?

Thanks for sharing your list. It was fun to see your friends and family and your favorite strangers. Never apologize for random pictures. I could look at pictures of your kids all day.

And you don't have to leave me alone. Heck, we're practically next door neighbors. And my husband is always golfing so I need company.

Sorry for the double comment - I didn't read your post twice....
If you don't use google reader to keep up with all your blogs, how do you keep track?

elasticwaistbandlady said...

I don't use google reader. I just use up all my computer's memory filling it up with links to my blog favorites!

elasticwaistbandlady said...

And I made "The List!"

In my acceptance speech I would like to thank you and your shiztastic family for being the very forst to introduce me to the world of blogging. I can honestly say that without you I wouldn't be here at all!
(Ummm, is this the part of the acceptance ceremony where I scream out FREE TIBET! or IMPEACH BUSH! or some other random ridiculous thing?)

elasticwaistbandlady said...

Oh, and your new blog template background? I just used Leelou and took the Maddysin(sp?) damask design to spruce up my oldest daughter, Lauren's blog.

I'm loving the black and white damask look paired with different accent colors this season.

Love the pic at the top of the kids boots!! I have a feeling you are a creative photographer type!!
(this is Vi Twelves from church by the way! - I was on Channings blog and saw yours!)

Oh my gosh...you are so popular. I bet you could totally be the prom queen of the blogging world. I'm just humbled to have made the list with the word "wisest" included on there. It might have to do with the fact that you have interesting things to say and you are funny and wise and have really, really cute kids! You just have everything going for you!

I second what Sarah said, I want my blog to be yours when it grows up. I love reading your blog. And even though I have not been part of the blogging world the past few months I have thoroughly enjoyed reading yours. So creative and fun, I love it!

No wonder you have over thirteen thousand visitors! How on earth do you ever keep up?? And I concur with suzie petunia...I heart Concrete Sequential too!

Yes, you are partly to blame for my entrance into "the vortex." I'm trying to resist checking out all the links to blogs you posted. I. Can. Resist. I love your blog too. When I grow up I want to be like you!
