The bus that never came...

We finally joined the rest of the country today and started school. It was a rough day. I woke up with school jitters an hour early and couldn't fall back asleep. Haley was cool as a cucumber. We were ready 45 minutes early and watched High School Musical 2 until it was time to wait for the bus. We were ready with spiffy new school gear and met our eager neighbors outside where we took pictures and watched the corner for the big yellow bus. The was Haley's first year to ride the bus so we were especially excited as we waited, and waited...and waited. So the time for school to start came and we figured that the bus's absence was not just due to a 1st day delay. We jumped in the car and arrived to school just a couple of minutes late...no worries, there were lots of "bus mishaps" this morning. She went beautifully and came home on the bus all smiles. She reported a good day at school but a stinky playground.
Abby had her first day at Pre-K...there has been very little communication with this program so we thought it did start today...then heard that it was starting Friday. So we stopped by this morning after dropping Haley off to talk to her teacher about some things and lo and behold, it started today. So we went home, got together her backpack and snack and got her back in time for her afternoon class...then she came home with a fever.
It's been a long day. I have such mixed emotions about school. Am I excited or sad? I don't really know...but the girls are happy and it is rather fun to wait for the bus. It's a good start, I suppose, to years and years more of school going children.
On Sunday we decided to take advantage of our last summer weekend with a spontaneous trip to Palmyra, New York. We hopped in the car after church and made our way to beautiful Palmyra. It was a short trip but we are glad we went with the girls. It is such an incredible part of the country and the weather was beyond pleasant. Highlights of the trip would have to include Abby's 45 minute tantrum at the rest stop because we wouldn't let her potty in the grass, trying to have a spiritual experience with our tender little ones in the Sacred Grove, and finding a pound of rocks in Mia's diaper at Hill Cumorah...rocks that she had stolen from the path at the Sacred Grove...and after the Sister missionaries asked us not to take anything. It was a fun trip and we're glad we did it.

It was my first trip to Palmyra. What a special place! I was so proud of Haley and Abby who knew the answers to almost all our questions about what happened there. Despite their individual moments of tantrums, it was a joy to spend the time with all the girls, especially Emily (who threw no tantrums and had no accidents!)

I'm glad Ems behaved herself so well. Tell Haley and Abs I'm very proud of them for being such happy eager students. I start school tomorrow and I kind of have the jitters....

today i think i had enough of summer. my kids were driving me crazy! so preschool will be welcome at my house:) i want to go to palmyra sometime. we've done some of the church sites with little ones- i love them, but it's difficult with little kids. spiritual, but still hard to keep everyone quiet at all the right moments.

Whew! What a long day! The girls are so cute, just like their Mom.

Yeah for New York!! That was only about 40 minutes from our house in Ithaca...I miss it a bit.

Although today's school "adventures" were nutty, they make for good memiroes!

Sounds like a perfect Scharman day. I'd like to visit there again. The first time I went was with a youth group of perfect strangers and a boy who couln't keep his paws to himself. My memories aren't as nice as Palmyra merrits. Why do kids love to ride the bus so much? It's Seth's favorite part of the day.

I'm just laughing. Kids make life so very interesting. Some days I think, "Man, I would be so bored and life would be so dull without these little ones!" Hope you get into a schedule that works well for you soon!

Your girls look so cute on their 1st day of school!

I am still hooting over a diaper full of rocks.... :)

You can't say life as a mom is boring...

Mia...you little thief! Madelyn had her first day of preschool on Tuesday. Her only feedback was that her teacher was fat. Where she learned that from I have no idea because we don't use that word in that context. I am just hoping she didn't tell Mrs. Dogget her opinion regarding her size!

So, I do have to say that Sydney was wondering if Abby was going to be in her preschool class this year. I think she's finally figured out that you guys are really gone...After church one day she said, "So I guess they're not gonna be our neighbors anymore." It really was cute then we had a little chat about the whole moving thing again. I miss the morning car pool!!!!

Ok...what's up with the new neighbor thing? Fill me in! Hopefully is pans out, huh?!

Haley and Abby look so grown up and cute for their first days of school... I agree with you about the mixed emotions thing though. Are we happy? Sad? It's hard to tell. Hopefully, the start to Abby's school experience is not the precursor to the rest of it. Your girls are too funny, I know you'll get blessings for trying to have spiritual experiences with them.

The Sacred Grove Rocks!

Literally......

Hey, one of my bloggy friends, Omar Phillips, said that next year the Bloggy Sisterhood should get together and meet at the Hill Cumorah Pageant because he only lives five miles from there. I thought that was interesting since him and his wife aren't even members but nearly all his faithful commenters are. Maybe I can justify this blogging thing as a sort of proselytizing/missionary work?!!!?

I looked for your e-mail but couldn't find it. Would you mind e-mailing me? It's a very secrety and clever e-mail address. Ready? elasticwaistbandlady@yahoo.com

Sacred rocks in a diaper... don't your children have any kind of respect?? :) That is very funny. You are so lucky to live so close to so many different interesting places. (Could I have used the word "so" any more times in that sentence? I think SO!)

We once waited for the bus and it never came. Fun. Lucky for us the bus is supposed to come 40 minutes before school starts, so we had plenty of time to figure out it probably wasn't coming and to drive the kids ourselves.

Funny about the rocks!! Did you save some for her memory box? You are so lucky you can jaunt over and see those things. I guess we live close to historical sites too-- I have just never seen the church sites "where it all began." We live 5 miles from Martin Harris' grave-- does that count?

I think you are amazing! We just took our first little family vacation...(we were trapped at a rest area for 45 minutes too...)
Lot of work with one...you have 3 and one on the way.

How are you feeling? You are cute.
