I need comfort and reassurance.. (Whether I am just a poor mom or not I would prefer you to validate me...afterall, its my blog...me me me...the complaint department is down the hall and closed indefinately.)
My three-year old has no desire to use the potty. She will go as often as she is set upon the porcelin throne but will still have an accident minutes after that. I have tried many a methods...so many in fact over the course of the last 9 months we have resorted to pull ups because I can't stand to throw away one more pair of uncleanable poopy Strawberry Shortcake Underwear. Do I have a horribly stubborn child or am I the cause of our poopy woes?

I just read an article in the newspaper today about a woman who is a pediatrician who was always giving great advice to all the mothers about how to take care of this issue and that problem etc. She was so wise....until it came time to potty train her own child. She was completely baffled and frustrated and just couldn't make it happen. She tried everything. Then one day, when her child decided it was time, she was trained. If a pediatrician can't make it happen, why should you feel so badly? When little Babs is ready, she will do it. Keep encouraging her, don't take it personally, be patient, and when she is ready, she will do it. And that's all I have to say about that.
I'll have to agree with Mo (and not just because she is my mom and all-knowing). Both of my potty-trained kids finally GOT IT when THEY were ready. There is no telling when that might be... It's like magic! OOH! Think of it that way, EM. It's like a magic show in your own house! TAA-DAAAA!
Right, and what are the magic words that get poopy diapers to change themselves again? I forget.
But thanks for the encouragement.
I believe those magic words are, "Uh, Clark, could you take care of that?" Unfortunately they only work when he is around.
We know the girl is highly intelligent, so I'm not worried. I agree when it's time she'll let you know. Think about her personality in general. It reminds me of when she is "on one" and is the most amazingly stubborn thing I've ever seen. 'Aint no bossin' that girl. Try totally ignoring the issue for a good while. And that's all the advice I've got--you know, from all those years and all those kids...wait, you just needed some kind words? Dang it--I did it again! Are you even still reading this?
Well, then there is my case. Not to change the subject from YOU to ME but I do have a child who is approaching 4 years old and will not only freely poop in his underwear but I think actually likes sitting in it. I've put him back in diapers and washed my butt, I mean my hands of the whole thing. Somehow he got hold of underwear today and he pitched quite a fit when Chris made him clean them out himself! Not that it will change a thing but I felt better knowing he was as grossed out by his own fecal matter as I am about it.
Alex was only a couple of weeks away from 4 when the battle finally ended and the final battle was tramatic. It took that long and he is one of the least stubborn children I know.
my mom rubbed my nose in it. She gave me fair warning, and then stuck to it. She said it worked like a charm, so when Isaac was filling every possible thing that looked like it would hold liquid, I warned him and stuck to it. It worked...mostly. I don't know how I would feel about rubbing a nose in poop, but desperate times call for desperate measures:) You'll have to keep us informed as to what finally happens. Good luck!
My son will be five in October and we are at our wits end. He has been "officially" potty trained off and on for 18 months. (He quit for six or eight weeks in the middle of a move a year ago.) But we are still having pooping issues. I've had to go back to charts and witholding non-fruit snacks until there is a poop every day. The rule now is that after lunch and dinner he sits on it for 10 minutes or until he goes. He hates it, but not as bad as I do. He is starting a 3-day a week half day preschool tomorrow. I had a pediatrician once tell me, "Don't worry--he won't got to school in diapers." That may be true, but I've been counting my blessings all week that he is six weeks too young to go to kindgergarten this year for this very issue.
