So perhaps I was being pessimistic when I said nothing interesting would happen over the weekend. Our transmission started to go out (a problem we have been "patching" for some time now.) Luckily, it only went out in reverse, so as long as we were careful to park on an incline all weekend we were good. However, since I don't want the forward part to go out somewhere on the Jersey Turnpike this week, we took it in to the shop to get a shiny new transmission. It's like Christmas in September!! We get something fun and new and it costs us lots of money. But the part that I love the most is that Mr. Jeff, who I have come to love and appreciate at our little town car place has provided us with a loaner. He told me first thing this morning on the phone (after begging him to have all the work done by Wednesday afternoon) that they would work some quick magic for us. Then he told me he had me covered and rushed off to make phone calls for all the parts. I love small town America.
Oh, and the loaner? His own personal mini van complete with car seats (and change in the ash tray)...after feeling guilty that this was his plan he assured me that his family wasn't going anywhere this week.
I heart Jeff the mechanic (and his wife for letting a complete stranger drive their car.)
Meanwhile, from downstairs I smell the aroma of packing paper and cardboard boxes. Clark's and my work is done. Now we sit and watch...and occasionally rush to finish something else we forgot to do last minute.
I love the smell of packing supplies in the morning.

What? Are you on happy pills? Your house is being packed up today and your car has expensive major problems. I have no problems and I have been grouchy all day. I want to be you when I grow up.
I agree with Mo. You just put the best spin possible on your situation. Maybe having your hubby there to deal with it together has something to do with it. Good luck with the move. I can't wait to find out where your house is and think of all of the fun things that will be around you. Unfortunately, incredible people like Mr. Jeff may be harder to find. New England sounds so charming.
Whoa. You found a mechanic that would go out of his way to help you and your family? Where do you live, Utopia? If you can find an air conditioning repairman like that, let me know. Oh, and they have to live in Utah. Thanks.
Where can I get some of your happy pills?
I heart Jeff the mechanic, too. I have one just like that: local, fast, inexpensive. The downside is that he is a terrible mechanic. :/
You are amazing. Good luck with everything! I hope you have no more car problems, or ANY problems for that matter. Can't wait to hear about the new place and adventures you will go on. I like to live vicariously through others. It makes me feel like I get out and see more than I really do.
I am very relieved to hear that you are getting the car fixed before making the exodus. I hope you don't mind if I hold off on 'hearting' Mechanic Jeff until I hear that your car is, in fact, done by Wednesday. Come quick.
Our power steering went out on the Jersey turnpike seven years ago, in the middle of the night. We were on vacation in Gettsburg, PA and Nya came down with a way scary fever. We drove all night to get home. Of course, no place on the Jersey pike could help us at 2 a.m., so I applaud your preparedness! Good luck with the packing and move...I imagine it won't take long for your HHG to get down here (or you either) and you can avoid that whole "wait 3 weeks in an empty house while your stuff sits in storage" that I'm SO very fond of. Let me know if you need any help...I'm glad your hubby's around. Things always go smoother with the military member is present, or so I've discovered one too many times. Happy Moving!
Wow. I have never forgotten our mechanic, who came and picked us up and then drove us back to our house- in two shifts as we couldn't fit all at once in his car.
Happy New Transmission Day!
bless you! and bless jeff and his little family. please take him cookies. that is one nice mechanic. i don't live in a city like that, not even close. but my husband is a pretty good mechanic, and pretty cheap too, thank goodess. if only he had time to fix that car in our garage that's been sitting there for two years...good luck with your move. i bet by now your computer is packed up. i have a wee nervous tummy for you.
Wow, I heart Mr. Jeff too. Now that's service. Our truck went on the fritz the night before I packed up to leave for Dallas. Smoke coming out of the hood and my husband's already in Dallas---no problem! What's moving without a little hiccup here and there? All my best for smooth sailing here on out.
Please don't be gone long.
I enjoy you so.
Good luck with your shiny new transmission and your move. I am looking forward to hearing all about your new adventures.
