Haley and Abby had their first horseback riding lesson on Saturday. I don't know who was more excited, them or me. They loved it.
It was a lot of fun to watch the girls. Haley approached it with her normal level of caution and close attention. Abby was energetic and kept volunteering for everything first. They did really well. Haley only got on backwards once! Just kidding. The instructor was having them practice their balance by turning all the way around in the saddle. She also goes over grooming and tacking so that the girls will eventually be able to do it on their own. Abby was in love with Shadow and her sparkly pink blanket. She would rub her face, push her long bangs aside and talk to her (except that I'm pretty sure that Shadow was a "he".)
It makes me want to take lessons. I have always wanted to learn to jump...and barrel race. Not at the same time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they are doing it...but few things have pained my heart more than my little cowgirls getting their first lesson with out me. Giddyup.
looks like you found boots! I wondered how you decided on horse lessons, not in my realm of thinking, I guess.
Oh it is just perfect for the girls of you two particular people. I am so happy they are getting to do that! Why don't you take your jumping lessons with them? I'm so sorry you didn't get to do more of that at their age!
I have a girl that would probably kill for Horse-back riding lessons, but I have never even thought about it. I love the holey jeans in the pictures.
p.s. I loved your last post. I read the whole thing and never noticed it was long because you are an awesome writer. And I heart Hazel's hair in the last picture.
Looks like so much fun!! And just seeing the title "giddyup" and then clicking on the link and seeing your hubby in a cowboy hat and you with your cow hat on- just seemed all so fitting with the theme of the pic.
Sounds like fun. Love the pictures.
My boys were so excited by these pictures. Kids can ride horses??? Who knew??? What fun!
I pretty much enjoy ANYTHING you do with those girls.. and particularly enjoyed the stick legs going into the boots. (As a young, thick, little girl.. my legs did not look like that-- and I envied all that did. The chubby little girl inside me is so happy for her!)
Would Enginerd have enjoyed witnessing the English lessons as much as Western?? (Probably bc he's just a horse whisperer, he is.)
I love their little jeaned legs with boots--and I feel your family MUST have horses. You must. I fear you jumping though. Danger.
