I changed my mind.
Today we went to our little town post office where the snow globe was taped to the counter, there were outgoing packages and mail casually stacked on an office chair behind the counter where the smiling post master chit chatted with me and gave us candy canes. The summers were delightful, the fall unbelievable and I think I even like winter. Is that weird? It has been wicked cold and the bus stop in the morning can be tortuous (mostly because the little people whine) I was raking leaves the other night and when I came in my cheeks were so cold that my speech was slurred. But the lakes, ponds and streams that are everywhere are beginning to freeze and its beautiful. The grass and leaves are crunchy in the morning as we walk across our yard to the bus stop...covered in little white crystals..."kissed by the frost fairies" as my girls like to say. Remember that cartoon from the first Fantasia where little fairies are frosting everything
with their little wands to the tune of The Nutcracker Suite? That's what we imagine. Things may change when we receive our first real oil bill...we are downright scared. But the fires are cozy and I try to keep a supply of herbal teas, hot chocolate and wassil on hand. We have flannel sheets to snuggle into at night and we don't have to mow our prairie/yard for several months! Most of church was cancelled yesterday because the heat wasn't working. Don't tell Texas, but I think I love Connecticut.(I actually wrote this post a couple of weeks ago...I still love Connecticut despite the fact that church was cancelled for a second time because of the heat issue, we HAVE received an oil bill, I heard coyotes two nights ago and we have a mouse living under the front step...)

I'd write a song to the tune of "moonlight in Vermont' called Winter in Connecticut... but its just not as catchy.... I need a cup of your wassil right now. could you please?
I'll take of cup of Waaasill, too, please. (That's Spence's pronunciation, not mine...) It is so beautiful there I would love to just sit by your fire, look out into your woods, and sip a hot wassail. Ahhh, lovely.
It just goes to show that you truly can "bloom where you are planted", even in the dead of winter. I'm glad you're likin' it... mostly.
We are having snow and ice that has shut down basically everything. No school. No church. No nothing. No one owns snow plows here. The roads are covered in several inches of solid packed snow/ice. Just lovely. The forecast says this will stretch into next week when the ACTUAL Christmas vacation starts. Fun for me. *nervous laughter*
I love this post because it reminds me of the beauty of CT. It is kinda magical like that. I loved watching the ice skaters skate on the frozen ponds during the winter. Plus with this wind chill we're having, I don't remember being this cold for this long while we were back there. It's weird but I'm missing CT in the winter.
we don't mow our lawn in texas, either. you can still love another state, as long as texas is still #1
I actually like winter too. I love snuggling the kids into bed at night, and sledding, and building snowmen. The boys have cute little snowshoes that we have fun using up in the easy mountain trails. (okay, so not really this year, I am a little too pregnant to enhoy it). I sent off my fist grader to school today in a blizzard, as he asked, how come we never get snow days?? Good question. Then me and the other boys shoveled the walks.

I still kinda can't believe I like Logan winter either. But it really is a 'dry cold' (as opposed to Missouris very 'wet' cold) and it actually makes a difference-- which I so used to not believe.) It's all about the right gear. I swear by North Face anything.. and as long s my thermostat is at 73-- I'm good! The nutty part is that here.. NOTHING is cancelled.. ever. We had 12 inches of snow at one point last year.. and school carried on like it was a light dusting. Aren't we hard core??
I think I love CT too, and have secretly been jealous this whole time...have you named the mouse? Cyotes don't waste their time with mice, right? But maybe juicy little girls...(evil laughter here)
That is exactly how I feel. Amazing how this place starts out rough and grows on you, huh?
The heat in our church building is broken too! But they won't cancel church and I freeze my booty every time.
(I was wondering why I was stuck at church for 3 hours last week if it was canceled. =)
It is definitely a beautiful place. Be thankful your post office is friendly. If your postmaster was as baffingly rude as ours, you might not have thawed to the place yet. Glad you like it here. For the next 3 years 4 months anyway.
Like your new heading! Very cute pic!
I found your blog from Sarah's -- we were on the freshman floor together at BYU -- and then later your sister Abby and I were in the same ward -- and I too just moved from TX to Connecticut -- you should email me -- I would love to hear where you are living! jamie.handy@gmail.com
