Every school in Connecticut was closed before our day even began. So the kids naturally woke up in a bored state...or maybe they were just super disappointed that they didn't get to go to school.
So we opened all the curtains and waited for the snow. We waited...
and waited...
and finally at about 2pm (when they actually could have gone to almost a full day of school) we saw our first snowflake of this alleged "winter storm".
and then we proceeded to get 6 inches in a few hours...and it is still going.
My job was to supply luke warm "hot" chocolate when they got too cold...then help them with their boots and send them out again.
I stayed nice and cozy inside with Hazel who had a ball watching Haley attempt to shovel the driveway.
I am so glad that I finally decided to invest in some knee high rubber boots. Where were these when I needed them last year? They will come in handy when I shovel the driveway tomorrow with my new snow shovel.*It stirs up memories of a year ago. I wish I had a picture of me last year, living with my parents in Utah and shoveling a foot of snow off of their driveway of death in my black velour jogging suit, 6 months pregnant and wearing my Mother's adorable polka dotted boots. Good times, good times. (My parents didn't allow me to shovel the driveway when they were there...but more than one occasion did call for it.) I am so happy for them that the "driveway of death" is no longer in the family. I'm sure that this winter, the snow is much more beautiful to them. Was that randomly long explanation of something totally unrelated to my post?

Even after 30 years in Texas, I still miss the snow-especially at Christmastime. I don't want to live with it anymore. Just experience it a little. See you soon-yes, we will see you soon. Love you lots.

It's going to snow here most of the rest of the week. At least it'll be a white Christmas. AND...I can send my kids out to make snow angels/forts/men to quell just a bit of the hyper excitement.
Is your thought process in post form? Do you send the kids out to get pictures of them waiting for snow, or did you just happen to have the camera whilst they were peering up into the heavens. I love it! I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who stages pictures to tell the story. Love the boots!

That's a very interesting way to handle a "snow day." Growing up, the school board never anticipated and pre-empted a storm. My kids would probably like to move to Connecticut.

Groovy Boots. I wish we were there to pull them around in the snow in sleds, take winter walks in the woods and take fun snow pictures!! I can't believe we won't see you this Christmas!!
Yes Vi, it would be funny if it was unusual. Statistically speaking, 90% snow days around here are perfectly clear. Ok, not statistically speaking. I made it up. But it's still true.
Emily, the only thing your day was missing (well, besides school) was a healthy dose of icecream cake. Are you going sledding today?

Beautiful - but, disappoint in our home. Also - how did you make those ornaments. we do that same thing each year and how did you make those - CLay?

That looks so beautiful! And because you knew it was coming, you probably had tons of hot chocolate on hand. I love the boots, and I am glad you won't have to shovel the driveway of death this year. I love the new picture of the girls at the top of your page, too! So, so cute!
I was puzzled, too. Until it came and came quickly. But still, we could have done a half day.
The ornaments, for those that are curious, are just made from salt dough that you bake at a low temperature for about 2 hours. I'm sure you can find an easy recipe online (I'd share the one I used but it was actually a little too dry.) We baked them and then painted them but the ones my sister just did look like they colored the dough first and it looks great.
You sound just like Dad and me--every time it snows we relive the trauma of that driveway and wonder if the new owners are ready to put the house on the market yet! I can't believe how many times you and I had to shovel it last year! And yes, we love it when it snows now. We just sit back and enjoy the beauty with none of the work! It's lovely!
wow, a whole new blog, what do i do with myself? i like that it isn't as narrow now. Love the snow, love your boots, I really wish I had a good reason to get boots like that because I adore the bright and crazy ones. I'll let you hug me in 1 week and we'll "rub off" from each other.

Great boots. Have you seen the selection at Target.com?? Oooooh.. just typing the word 'Target' gets me giddy. I love that they're a THING right now.. (but prefer my fuzzy Uggs for the deep stuff..) May I point out how much I enjoy the polka-dot shirt on your little girl in the new opener shot up there?? Precious. I think I would buy soley polka-dotted items for everything in life if possible. On the other side of America over here.. we can't get them to cancel school for present, falling, 8 inch snow fall. It'sd the craziest thing I ever saw. So I have a request.. I want a shot of your cute house from the front. The porch on front looks so perfect.. I wanna see the whole thing. Get on it!
i kinda wish we had that much snow but i kinda don't! it is pretty anf fun to play in...for about 10 minutes! haha! but it can also cause many problems! like i hope you get here on time!!! hehe! can't wait! :)
Em, I have those cute boots too! Good taste lady. Merry Christmas! Oh and today we have gotten 12 inches and is it 3 o'clock and still dumping hard....my poor parents on their driveway.
